Founded by Jimmy John Liautaud in 1983 in Charleston, Illinois, Jimmy John’s began as a small sandwich shop built around a simple idea: serve fresh, quality sandwiches quickly and make them convenient for customers. Liautaud started the business with a $25,000 loan from his father and initially considered opening a hot-dog stand, but switched to sandwiches after realizing they were more affordable to launch. The first restaurant opened on January 13, 1983, and delivery quickly became an important part of the business.
Over the years, Jimmy John’s expanded from its original location into a major sandwich chain. Franchising began in 1994, and the company continued growing throughout the 2000s and 2010s, opening its 500th restaurant in 2007 and its 1,000th in 2010. Today, Jimmy John’s has more than 2,800 locations and operates as part of Inspire Brands.
Jimmy John’s is known for its wide selection of sandwiches, including favorites made with turkey, ham, roast beef, salami, capicola, tuna, bacon, and cheese.
